Ok... Two things.

First thing...

I've spent my life studying very difficult subjects.  Digesting all of these details has been very challenging, frustrating & rewarding.  Just to find one article in some obscure journal has lead me from one library to another.  And the libraries I've been to are huge.  The UC Davis undergrad library, and then the UCD medical library.  UC Berkeley undergrad library, Stanford Math & Physics library & Stanford medical library & the SLAC library.    And besides all of the books, journals & other media at these libraries are other scientists doing the same thing.  Searching for answers.

So when a theist, like Ray Comfort, or Ken Ham  tells me the real answers are in the bible,  Its insulting.  They are telling me I'm wasting the most precious gift I have ... my life.  & if I am actually wasting my life then I am an idiot.  

I  usually don't take the implication personally because of how ignorant the fundamentalists sound & I do understand their source of ignorance.  Its not really their choice.  New knowledge comes from our environment.  Not from magic.

Second : 
Theists can be led to water but you can't make them drink.  The information is there.  And  just like scientists, any theist can challenge their own theories/beliefs/convictions.

So... as a result of being here G+ and joining science groups I am finding the absurd assertions of "the faithful" entering into scientific discussions and as a result I have even joined an atheist group.  

Sadly I have to say that some of the atheists sound as bad/angry/irrational as the theists.  Rarely to I see any discussion about applying the scientific method to god.

1. observe
2. characterise, document, repeat 1 & 2.
3. explain, theorise, speculate repeat 1, 2, 3
4. repeat 1, 2, 3, 4.
5. test, experiment, refine, repeat
6. if there is nothing in 3 that works ... kill the theory  if not...
6. repeat 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

God is not reproducible.  His "miracles" are not reproducible.  There is no reference God.. so how would you know if you saw God.... same thing with supernatural acts ... if you saw one how would tell a natural "act" from a supernatural one???

Atheists ... name calling is not useful... you are not superior.  In fact nature may be selecting against atheists.  Theists respond to authority (scientific or religious)  & more likey to be healed via faith ( Placebo effect ) than you are.  So don't be arrogant.  Death judges us all & it doesn't matter what you believe.  Well... unless you believe drinking radium is good for your health (yeah ... scientists did that.)

And besides ... when you look at how well some churches are run ... some do a better job administering their "business"  than the US Government.  I get about 4 visits a year from the Mormons & never once have I been visited by my congressman or a rep from his office.  There is a lesson to be learned there I think.  ( like observe, characterise etc... etc.. repeat)

So anyway ... that's my last word on science/atheism ... I am distracted by the pointless and very unproductive arguments and as a result have decided to stop reading them & stop participating in further discussions.  And I am leaving the Atheism group.
